Shalom Home Living was founded by Reverend Eugene, who recognized a need for compassionate, high-quality services that honor the whole person. His heart for service and community continues to guide our work today. Our experienced and dedicated staff bring both professional expertise and genuine care to every relationship, ensuring dependable, respectful, and relationship-based support for individuals and families. Through empathy, consistency, and skill, we strive to create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and empowered.

Reverend Eugene Kiruhura

Founder & CEO

Reverend Eugene Kiruhura is a dedicated servant-leader with a deep passion for serving the people of Iowa. He brings over six years of experience as a Director Services Professional, advocating for and supporting individuals with disabilities to live empowered, dignified lives. In addition to his work in human services, Reverend Kiruhura has faithfully served as a pastor for more than 12 years, leading a robust and thriving church rooted in compassion, community, and spiritual growth.

Driven by a heart for inclusion, he also founded and led a nonprofit organization for five years, providing critical support and resources to refugees and immigrants as they build new lives in the United States. Reverend Kiruhura’s work reflects a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and uplifting diverse communities through faith, advocacy, and action.

Leslie McCarthy

Leslie McCarthy

Director of Operations

Leslie McCarthy brings nearly 30 years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities across a variety of service settings. Her professional background includes extensive work within SCL homes as well as employment services, supporting individuals in developing skills, confidence, and meaningful participation in daily life.

In her role as Director of Operations, Leslie prioritizes systems and supports that promote individualized growth and increased independence, aligned with each person’s abilities, goals, and support needs. She is committed to ensuring services are delivered with consistency, accountability, and a strong focus on quality care.

At Shalom Home Living, Leslie approaches her work with professionalism, compassion, and integrity, viewing her role as both a responsibility and a calling, and demonstrating her faith through thoughtful leadership, service, and respect for the dignity of each individual served.
